A Good Night Begins with Momentum and Keeping the Ball in Motion

Have you ever been to a football game or another sporting activity where the fans toss a beach ball around to see how far it can make it around the stadium? Did you ever wonder what would happen if no one participated? No - maybe 'cause with all the excitement, people cannot help but be a part of it; perhaps you were one of them. They feel the energy and want to feel the excitement of being part of something bigger than themselves.

Each time you take a step toward or a hit at your beach ball or goal. You are creating motion and with motion comes momentum. Share your goals with others so they can be a part of creating and moving your goal from motion to achievement. Take daily actions to keep the ball in motion. What happens when you stop moving the beach ball around? You need to start all over again and need to regain the momentum every time you stop and start. Your daily actions have greater impact than just doing something once in a while. Maybe you need to hug your kids one more time each day or pay attention to your finances and spending patterns each day so you can create an awareness and an intention to keep your goal or beach ball in motion.

When you focus on your goals every day, before you know it, you will have achieved them due to the daily actions and choices. Where your energy goes, momentum will follow. It takes time to get the beach ball around the stadium but with consistent effort it makes its way around. Hear the crowd roar - you did it! You reached your goal! You will have a reason to celebrate because it is going to be a GOOD NIGHT!

What You Talkin' About Willis?

I remember watching the TV series "Different Strokes" years ago. Gary Coleman played a character named Arnold. He use to question his brother, Willis, with this famous line, "What You Talkin' About Willis?" Arnold had this furrow in his brow and a pouty mouth.

I saw the same look on my older son's face the other day when his soccer team was suffering a potential loss. He is a competitive young man who strives to win. He is still learning the lessons of loss and sportsmanship. He wanted to switch to a different team, a team which he thinks could have a higher skill level. I told him we could look into the possibilities but I could not guarantee that the move would be possible. He may have to make the most of the situation. As he stood on the sidelines, he crossed his arms and gave me the look, "What you talkin' about MOM?"

What I explained to him, can apply to areas in our lives as well. You may have an event or situation that comes up in your life that you may not care for. It can be working with a committee or a team in which all members come together with different abilities. I explained to my son, "There will always be people better than you and those who do not have the same skill level as you. What matters is how you play the game. How do you enrich the team you are assigned to? Are you giving your best in every play or situation?"
You can help build other players up by teaching them some of your savvy skills. Ask a person you see as more skilled than yourself for their guidance and tips for improvement. You can find out what every one's expectations and goals are. Communication is so important in working together. Get to know each other and discover each other's strengths. Position yourselves so that you are allowing people to give their very best. That way -You win. Everyone wins. Let other people know what you doing and ask for help when you need it. You are sure to SCORE  the goal and achieve your end result.

Take your event or situation. See how YOU can make a difference right where YOU are right now. Look at what you have and not what you do not have. The outcome of your situation depends on how you respond to it. What skills do you bring to the table? How can you leverage these skills and make your situation better?

Instead of "What You Talkin' About Willis?", let it be - "NOW that's what I'm talkin' about!" Go for it!

Just in case you wanted to know, my son scored and he tied the game.  We had investigated moving to another team. He is unable to move teams but he knows he has much more to offer his team. Next year, he plans to try out for a higher level division. He will have many lessons to share. He is learning to be a leader!

The Perfect Spiral

Yesterday, I was passing the football back and forth with my son. For a 7 year old, he has some muscle in that little arm. He threw some great spirals. I, on the other hand, did not throw the perfect spiral. Jordan started to laugh and said, " Come on Mom! I know you have some juice in there." I was flabbergasted. I asked him how he learned to throw so well. He said, "Dad taught me. Look, Step, and Throw." Lessons from my 7 year old, "See Mom, you can do it!"

When you want to try something new or improve in an area, do you LOOK for resources and people to help you? You want to talk to people who have already done what you want to do. Their wisdom is priceless. Read books in the area you want to grow in. If it is not one of your strength, consider hiring an expert.

Once you are armed with some knowledge and lessons from others life experiences, it is your turn. Do not wait for the perfect moment as you will just procrastinate and nothing will come to be. Instead, STEP into it! As you attempt to go after what you want, you create momentum. You can adjust along the way!

THROW is where the action comes in. Release you ideas and talents out into the world. You are the only one who can deliver it your way. Think about your favorite places to shop or eat out. Why do you go there? Is it because the way they make you feel or their way of doing things that makes it so great? People come to you because of the way you do things. Throw yourself into what you love and get your perfect spiral!

Make it your own TOUCHDOWN! It's GOOD!

C'mon Spontaneity on Island Time

Turning Down a Good Thing

How many of you have been offered your ideal job or contract just to realize the one you currently have is actually the one you love the best? Another movie lesson from "Morning Glory". Rachel McAdams turns down the a super opportunity in the TV world because she realized she is happiest where she currently is. There are times when we may already stepped into our greatness or feel true fulfillment without even realizing it until we have been faced with the decision to step away.

Think about where you feel you have the greatest impact in your life. Where are you the most happy and fulfilled? Are you searching for something you already have? True fulfillment is realizing you are happiest where you are right now. Sometimes turning down a job or contract that is good actually leads to or makes room for something great. You need to do what you feel passionate about. If something does not completely resonate with your personal values or priorities; don't do it! Better opportunities mean you will be more engaged, present, and produce better results. How well do you perform at something you are not keen on? You do not perform your best when you settle for second best.

What moments do you remember feeling completely fulfilled? Imagine feeling that way every time you make a choice to follow a great thing instead of good thing? The pay off is much greater and the opportunities are much bigger!
